Active Methodology

We believe that consistent effort is fundamental to learning. Therefore, our students learn through a series of activities and projects that require high engagement during class. They are supported by attentive teachers who guide them through the curriculum.

For the majority of the time, classes are participatory. Students "produce" outcomes to effectively engage with their learning objectives and demonstrate their understanding, as opposed to a traditional class where the student is passive.

Typically, classes are seated in small groups to facilitate group discussions and learning exchanges. Below is a list of the pedagogical practices within our school:

Learning Goals

Establish a focus for the lesson and allow children to monitor their progress.

Mini Lessons

Consolidate learning in teacher-led sessions, designed to structure knowledge within the didactic sequence.

Class Debate

Encourage research skills, sharing knowledge through group discussion, generating further areas of exploration and strengthening public-speaking abilities.

Independent Study

Develops independent reading skills, problem-solving techniques and the confidence to learn through exploration.

Peer Corrections

Enable exchanges between peers, during which students are given the correction criteria, defined by the teacher, and comment and correct the work of their classmates after a class-based exercise.

Projects

Instigate children's curiosity with exercises that explore their ideas and hypotheses, while research and brainstorming sessions help students find creative answers.

Exit Ticket

Offers the opportunity at the end of lessons for students to demonstrate their fulfilment of the learning objectives, preferably followed by constructive feedback.

Bilingualism

Our focus is to prepare students for the modern world by instilling a global, multicultural outlook. As one of the defining features of our heritage, our mother tongue, the Portuguese language, is a significant element of the school’s personal and cultural identity.

We believe that a bilingual learning environment helps to cultivate a broad vision of the world, and the pillar of Global Citizenship highlights this view. Students learn in a setting that allows them to acquire English confidently, guaranteeing increased opportunities for social communication and leading them towards international academic and professional prospects.

Language Arts lessons and Portuguese classes

International Curriculum

Students receive Language Arts lessons and Portuguese classes. Furthermore, to support English fluency, 40-80% of all classes are taught in English, depending on the grade. Learners are taught international curricula, including the IEYC (International Early Years Curriculum), the IPC (International Primary Curriculum) and the IB (International Baccalaureate). Outcomes are measured via rigorous international assessment guidelines.

Bilingualism

creates awareness of other cultures

Students are encouraged to read both Portuguese and English literature. Additionally, global Citizenship, Creative Tech, and Arts & Expression projects are delivered to students across all stages to deepen their awareness of Brazilian and British culture, and other cultures worldwide.

Technology

Media, maker, coding and digital literacy

The Creative Technology curriculum is delivered to students in 1st to 9th grade. The Creative Technology course seeks to develop creativity through a design-led methodology anchored in four thematic axes: Media, Maker - product design, Coding - computational thinking, and Digital Literacy.

LIV

Life Intelligence Lab

You can't change how you feel, but you can learn what to do with your feelings. With this belief in mind, we have constructed our Emotional/Life - Intelligence Programme, or LIV, and present sessions to children in Kindergarten, to 9th grade.

Based on a structured pedagogical plan, LIV ensures a long-term process of discussion and exploration surrounding social and personal issues. The LIV curriculum is adapted to each stage to meet the needs of each age group.

Sports

One of the pillars of the Inspired Education Group

As one of the three pillars of the Inspired Education Group, alongside Creative and Performing Arts and the central pillar of Academics, we understand that sports practice offers multiple advantages. In addition to the obvious benefits gained from sporting activity, such as improved health, increased well-being and fun learning opportunities, a structured sports programme builds socio-emotional skills, including discipline, resilience, and teamwork.

Physical Education
Curriculum

Students participate in physical activities and sports sessions to promote body positivity and good health. They learn the merits offered by physical activity beyond sports performance alone.

Competitive Sports (2023)

Learners in 1st to 12th grade compete in indoor games as part of a tournament to develop an appreciation of teamwork and the ability to deal with frustration.

Olympics

An annual one-week event in which all grades are divided into four teams to compete in various sports games and fun, active challenges.

Extra-curricular

Out-of-school hours athletics activities are available to children of all ages, in addition to a programme of team sports for learners in 6th to 12th grade.
